The process

How a roadside spare tire change works

Changing a tire looks simple until you're kneeling beside traffic with a jack you've never used. A spare tire change from a mobile roadside technician removes the guesswork and the risk. You stay somewhere safe while the wheel gets swapped.

We install your spare tire, whether it's a full-size spare or a compact temporary one. After that, plan a trip to a tire shop to repair or replace the original. Temporary spares aren't designed for long-term driving.

Check the speed and distance limits printed on your temporary spare. Many are meant for short trips at reduced speeds.

You call and tell us the basics

Your vehicle, the flat tire's position, whether you have a usable spare, and where you are.

We arrive and set up safely

We position for visibility, check the area, and make sure the vehicle is secure before lifting.

Flat off, spare on

We loosen the lug nuts, lift the vehicle at the proper jack point, remove the flat wheel and mount your spare.

Torque check & you're off

Lug nuts are tightened in the correct pattern, the vehicle is lowered, and your flat is stowed if it fits.

Spare tire FAQ

Spare tire change questions

How fast and how far can I drive on a spare?

Many compact "donut" spares are meant for short distances at reduced speed. The limits are usually printed on the spare's sidewall or in your owner's manual. Follow them and get your regular tire repaired or replaced as soon as you can.

What if my spare tire is flat too?

Spares often sit unused for years and lose air. Check it if you can (see the checklist above) and tell us when you call. If the spare isn't usable, a spare tire change won't solve the problem, and we'll be upfront about that.

Where is my spare tire?

In most cars it's under the floor of the trunk. Many trucks, SUVs and minivans carry it underneath the vehicle near the rear, and some SUVs mount it on the back door. Your owner's manual will show the location and the jack points.

What happens to my flat tire?

After your spare is on, the damaged wheel normally goes where the spare was stored, if it fits. Take it to a tire shop so they can tell you if it can be repaired.

Can you change a tire on the interstate shoulder?

Safety comes first. Tell us exactly where you are and how much room there is. If the spot is too dangerous to work in, we'll talk through options with you on the call.
